Iowa vs. Purdue.

No game can spell more confusion for me then anything else. I have been a Boilermaker almost my whole life. Since I can remember, I've cheered for them. Heck, Living in West Laffeyette, IN, for Holloween when I was 4 or 5, I got decked out as Purdue Pete. However, for the past 5 years, I've been a Hawkeye. But you can't go against 22 years of your life and expect the change to complete even in 5 years.

It is due to this part of my life, that I feel I am the most capible to venture onto the official purdue website and grab some information about them. Don't worry I also got some game notes for Iowa.

Purdue has always, and even more so under Joe Tiller, had a really fast team. They have a really explosive offense that can stretch the field and give cornerbacks fits. Not to mention they have always pretty good quarterbacks (Jim Everett way back in the day, but don't forget Drew Brees and Kyle Orton). Their Defense is also really fast. They can converge on the ball real quick.

However, due to their focus on speed, they aren't as physical as the hawkeyes. To win we must:
Run the ball on offense
Iowa must run the ball effectively to keep the quick boilermaker recievers off the field. This will also help keep our cornerbacks fairly refreashed and ready to go when they do have to play.
Run small passes and make the routes precise.
With Purdues speed, Iowa needs can help the run game with quick dump passes and short out patterns. When the routes get long, you generally don't have that much time for quick manuvers, and thus that favors Purdue since their quys are just as fast as our receivers, if not faster. Plus due to the fact that the whole team is fast, Christenson must have precision when he passes. Defenders will converge FAST!
Get to the quarterback A.S.A. friggin' P.
This is pretty much a given with the guys we feature on the defensive line, but still, the sooner we get to quarterback down, the less time he has to find that receiver down field.

Other notes:
  • We must get back to doing what we are good at. That is smash-mouth football. We are not a pass-happy air-it-out type of a team. Even more so now then ever. If Ken O'Keefe, the offensive co-ordinator doesn't get back to that, I think I'm going to seriously be calling for his resignation. We don't have 3 of our best receivers anymore (Boman, Douglas, Brodell), not to mention an awesome tight end (Moaki). We do however still have 2 great runners and a talented (and young) offensive line (Which will only get better!!!)
  • Get back to the fundimentals. With a team that is as young as we are, we need to really focus on what makes for some good football. I have stated during the Indiana and Penn State games (and people can varify this) that we have played some "piss poor football". Even during the Illinois game we were looking kind of out of sync and not to sure about what we should/shouldn't do. We shouldn't have to pray and hope that the other team will mess up and hand us the game. (Think "end of Illinois"... Illegal formation saved our asses and then the interception at the end zone.)
The only real big "X-Factor" I have is the fact that Purdue has lost their last 2 games against some pretty tough opponents (Ohio State and Michigan) and are probably looking to bash some heads in. So, for our sake, I hope Iowa plays a good, fundamentally solid game of football. If we can do that I think we can get yet another win and start to right the boat, so to speak.

Gave up Trying to figure it out but my head got lost along the way
